SONA25: ‘20% allowance will soon be given to teachers posted to rural areas’ — Mahama

The President announced a pivotal initiative to incentivize teachers to accept postings in rural areas. Delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, the President revealed that a 20% allowance will be granted to teachers who agree to serve in rural schools.

This policy aims to motivate and retain teachers in underserved areas, ensuring quality education nationwide.

"It is important to continue to retain and motivate teachers in all schools, especially in rural and underserved areas," the President emphasized.

"Government will begin plans for the implementation of the 20% allowance for teachers who agree to serve in rural schools."

The implementation of this policy will be done in collaboration with local assemblies, with District Assemblies playing a crucial role in monitoring teacher presence and performance.

"District Assemblies would be involved in this scheme to ensure that the teachers are present and teaching," the President noted. "This scheme will reward such teachers for their sacrifice and ensure quality education nationwide."

Furthermore, the President addressed the pressing issue of teacher accommodation, announcing the commencement of the Teacher Dabr3 initiative.

"As part of our Teacher Dabr3 initiative, the construction of teacher accommodation units to improve welfare and attract teachers to rural areas will commence this year," he announced.

This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing education in rural areas and promoting teacher welfare.

By providing financial incentives and addressing accommodation challenges, the government hopes to encourage more teachers to accept rural postings, ultimately bridging the educational gap between urban and rural areas.
