Government to meet CLOGSAG over ongoing strike on Feb 27

The government is set to engage in negotiations with the leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Thursday, February 27, in a bid to resolve the ongoing strike.

CLOGSAG is demanding the removal of the newly appointed Births and Deaths Registrar, Samuel Adom Botchway, citing concerns about his alleged political affiliations.

In a letter from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Unemployment, the government urged CLOGSAG to suspend the strike ahead of the scheduled meeting.

Speaking to Citi News, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, indicated that the association’s next course of action would be determined by the outcome of the negotiations.

"We have received correspondence from the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment inviting us to a meeting on Thursday, February 27. They have also requested that we consider suspending the strike. However, as we have always maintained, the strike was declared by the National Executive Council of CLOGSAG, which is the only body authorized to call it off.

"Furthermore, regarding the principle of neutrality, some of our members have been dismissed for breaching it by engaging in political activities. In light of this, we believe it is only fair that Mr. Botchway be removed as a starting point for these discussions," he stated.
