KNUST Mourns Student’s Death, Investigation Underway.

KNUST Investigates Death of Final-Year Biological Sciences Student.


The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is mourning the loss of a final-year student, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. 

The university has confirmed her passing and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

In an official statement, KNUST revealed that its Security Services received a report of an unresponsive body near the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. 

The deceased was promptly transported to the University Health Services, where medical personnel officially pronounced her dead.

The university administration has contacted her family to deliver the tragic news and has expressed its deepest sympathies. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” the statement read.

A thorough investigation is currently underway, involving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services. The inquiry aims to uncover the facts surrounding her untimely death.

KNUST management has reassured the university community of its commitment to maintaining student safety and welfare. It also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

The university has promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
