Finance Minister Denies Public Sector Employment Freeze for 2025.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has dismissed claims of a freeze on public sector employment, assuring the public that recruitment will continue as needed.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, March 12, Dr. Ato Forson addressed growing concerns regarding job availability in the public sector.
He refuted allegations that the government had imposed a halt on hiring across various ministries and agencies.
These concerns arose following a section of the 2025 budget, which outlined measures to control public expenditure.
The budget states, “Government will implement the following measures to keep the wage bill within sustainable levels: (i) Fully implement the net freeze on employment by immediately putting on hold all recruitments/replacements into the Public Service, given that the recent realignment and collapse of some MDAs has brought about surplus labour.
In this regard, there will be no extension of contracts for all public officers, except in Education (universities), which will be capped and done within budgetary constraints.”
Despite this, Dr. Ato Forson emphasized that no blanket freeze on employment exists. “There is no freeze on employment,” he said, reassuring the public that recruitment will proceed in line with the country’s economic needs.
His comments aim to alleviate the concerns of job seekers and public sector employees who have been uncertain about future employment prospects.
The Minister also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to job creation, particularly for young people, while ensuring essential sectors like healthcare and education remain adequately staffed.
Dr. Ato Forson’s statements align with the government’s broader economic strategy to strengthen the labor market and support national growth.
