Teacher Fatally Struck by Lightning at Anloga Senior High School.
A wave of shock and distress has gripped the Anloga Senior High School (Anseco) community and residents of Atsugbor Electoral Area in the Anloga District of the Volta Region following the tragic death of a teacher who was struck by lightning. The unfortunate event took place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at approximately 5:45 p.m. during a heavy rainstorm accompanied by a thunderstorm.
Mr. James Fiati, the Assembly Member for the area, described the tragedy as deeply unsettling, noting that the community had not witnessed such a harrowing incident in recent memory.
Recalling the moment he received reports, he said, “Some residents called to inform me about a man in a raincoat lying lifeless in the middle of the road while it was still raining. It was a horrifying sight, and no one was near him at the time.”
Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased, identified as Mr. William Amoako, a Physics teacher in Anseco’s Science Department, was on his way home after school when disaster struck.
Mr. Fiati urged residents to take necessary safety measures during rainfall to avoid similar tragedies.
Reports indicate that local authorities and the Anloga Police were notified, leading to the transportation of the deceased to the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for further examination and autopsy.
Initial observations at the scene revealed bruises on his head and torn clothing, heightening suspicions that he was struck by lightning.
Further investigations disclosed that the late teacher, who was in his early 30s, hailed from Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region.
Police have since launched inquiries into the incident, while the school administration has yet to issue an official statement.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the loss, students and teachers continue to pay tribute to their departed colleague.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, support police investigations, and exercise caution as the rainy season, often accompanied by thunderstorms, unfolds.
