In a bid to uphold academic integrity and ethical standards, the University of Ghana has taken decisive action against a lecturer and 16 students found guilty of various offenses.
The lecturer, Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah, has been sanctioned for sexual misconduct, specifically harassment, contrary to the institution's policies.
Following a thorough investigation, Dr. Appiah has been subjected to disciplinary measures, including issuing a formal written apology to the complainant, suspension from the University for two academic semesters, being barred from submitting an application for promotion to the next highest grade following the end of his suspension, and undergoing training on sexual harassment and misconduct conducted by the University's Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee.
The 16 students sanctioned for various offenses, including plagiarism, falsification of documents, inter-hall conflicts, and drug possession, will face corresponding disciplinary measures.
The University of Ghana reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and misconduct, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all students, staff, and faculty.
The Office of the Registrar has assured the university community that appropriate actions have been taken in all cases, emphasizing the importance of maintaining both academic and ethical integrity.
